meterSeeing as how this is the holiday season, it seems appropriate to turn our attention away from ourselves and onto others. After all, you’ll have plenty of time to be self absorbed when it’s time for New Years resolutions.

So we’ve got various efforts and emotions of doing unto others. Take your pick of what you are in the mood for and how deep you are willing to dip into the “feeling” well. The pun is intentional and in fact, the purpose of this article.

Among your choices are all the time-tested standards: gratitude, joy, love, harmony, good will, graciousness and kindness. Some of us may have to “fake it until we make it” when it comes to feeling and acting upon these higher levels of human expression. But practice makes perfect they say. In fact, the better you fake it, the sooner you make it.

The more time you spend in an “attitude” the more it becomes part of you.

Exercising the emotional muscle creates new neurology. How would you like some brand new neurons under the Christmas tree or Chanukah bush this year? Sing along. “And on the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me, five brand new neurons…”.

Please excuse the humorous tone. I tend to get a wee bit cynical around the holiday season.

One thing I am not joking about is the practice of improving your attitude. Even if only for breakfast you wash down your morning orange juice with some gratitude and joy, it will start to spread throughout your cells and fill up your cup. Then it leaks out amongst your peers and spreads.

An interesting book written some years ago by psychiatrist Dr. David R. Hawkins called Power vs. Force, talks about the frequency vibration of various emotions. He created a tone scale from 1 to a 1000 and rated them using muscle testing and thousands of volunteer test subjects.

Feelings like fear and shame were on the low end of the spectrum, while love, joy and gratitude occupied the coveted 500 and above spots. His top honor at a 1000 tone scale went to ENLIGHTENMENT. This rare state of being is shared only by the “Great Ones of history who originated the spiritual patterns which multitudes have followed through the ages”.

How to Dump the Bloated from Food Blues

glass of wineI know it is after Thanksgiving. But by the time you read this, the resolution to not eat so much at the next holiday feast has probably already worn off.

So if you do overindulge, forgive yourself and move on. Here are some helpful tips for what to do so you are not so uncomfortable after.

  • Have some wine before you eat and along with the meal. Sip slowly so you don’t get tipsy and eat even more. The wine helps digestion. Of course, if you don’t drink, then don’t drink.
  • Take digestive enzymes with your meal. Pick some up at the health food store. If you forget, ask your host for some apple cider vinegar (not regular vinegar) and put a tablespoon in a glass of water and drink along with your meal. You can follow it up with a glass later if you are still bloated.
  • The digestive enzymes will better able you to digest what you eat. Chances are you will still feel bloated, though. So arm yourself with a homeopathic remedy called Nux Vomica. Get it in a 30c strength or 30x. Take about 4 pellets no sooner than 15 minutes or more after you eat. It takes the discomfort away. Who comes up with these names?

A Quicker and Better Way to Exercise

exerciseThe benefits of exercise are huge. Not to mention one of the benefits is preventing you from becoming HUGE.

You can’t beat an activity that lowers insulin resistance, cuts the risk of colon and breast cancer, increases growth hormone, tones your muscles, burns fat inside and out, slows the aging process,improves circulation, increases your happy endorphins, gives you energy, power and confidence.

Here is the latest in wisdom for your best cardio work out. Medium paced cardio mixed with bursts of high paced cardio. It strengthens the heart better, vastly increases growth hormone production and burns more fat.

And the best thing is it is a shorter workout and done less often. Two to three twenty minute workouts per week is plenty.

Here’s how:

  1. Use any exercise machine or method: recumbent bike, real bike, elliptical machine, stair climber or real stairs, jog, walk, swim. I use a mini trampoline, jump for medium or slow pace and run in place for fast pace.
  2. Do some stretching to get the muscles loose.
  3. Then warm up slow/medium pace on cardio device for three minutes.
  4. Go all out sprint speed for thirty seconds. All out means you can’t go anymore after thirty seconds.
  5. Recover at a slow or medium pace for ninety seconds.
  6. The sequence is 3 minutes of warm up.
    30 seconds of “all out”.
    Ninety seconds slow or medium pace recovery.
    30 seconds “all out”.
    Ninety seconds recovery…repeat.

That’s a total of eight repetitions of  “all out”.
Add up all the seconds in the sequence and that’s twenty minutes plus cool down of three minutes.

6. Depending on what kind of shape you are in, you may not finish eight reps of “all out”. Build up to it. And your “all out” will increase in speed as you get in shape.

7. Don’t go gung ho and hurt yourself. Gauge your capacity, start slow, get in shape and you can use this health practice for a long time.

Don’t Panic, Hit the Reset Button

reset buttonYou will notice you are moving and thinking really fast. Too fast. You are in a whirlwind of activity. You are anxious, tense, worried and your mind is racing. It is not effortless. You are trying too hard. You are not in the moment. It is time for a Reset.

  1. Stop.
  2. Become aware of how fast you are moving.
  3. Take stock of what you are doing.
  4. Move your energy down from your head into your Dan Tien (see Health Tip). That area one inch below your navel and one inch inward. This takes you out of your head and into your BodyMind balance zone.
  5. Now look around and see what there is to notice and feel.
  6. See if there is something you need to pay attention too in the present moment. The here and now. Perhaps it is a situation to appreciate like you will see in the video. Perhaps it is a sign (see article) of something you need to pay attention to. Perhaps it is an idea that needs to come through.
  7. Then go about your business refreshed, centered, updated and aware of the world and information around you.
